The 2022 Taos is latest Volkswagen SUV, and it is about to hit the roads in North America and Complexe VW 440 in Laval! This new entry-level model will replace the base version of the Golf, which will only be available in GTI and R versions for 2022.

As for the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan, it represents a mid-cycle refresh for VW. The 2nd generation of this SUV, first introduced back in 2017, has been given a facelift that will allow it to remain competitive in its class, which grows even fiercer every year. This new version will be available in the third quarter of 2021.

2022 VW Taos vs Tiguan: Overview

The 2022 VW Taos is offered at a price ranging from $26,995 to $36,695, making it a very affordable SUV. Unfortunately, the price range for the 2022 Tiguan has not been released yet, but for comparison, the 2021 version had a base price of $29,795 which climbed to $40,195 for the high-end trim. We expect the 2022 version to offer similar pricing.

While slightly more compact than the Tiguan, the Taos is still very spacious. In fact, it offers between 795 and 1877 liters of cargo space, depending on whether or not you fold down the rear seat.

The Tiguan, for its part, offers a more generous cargo volume ranging from 1065 to 2081 liters for the 5-seat model, while the 3-row version offers between 934 and 1860 liters of cargo space.

Finally, while the VW Tiguan comes in both 5- and 7-passenger versions, the Taos only offers the 5-seat version.

The 2022 Tiguan also boasts a beautiful design. It features a more imposing front fascia than the outgoing model, all-new streamlined headlights, standard LED headlights and new 18- to 20-inch wheels, depending on the version and options you choose.

2022 VW Taos vs Tiguan: Under the Hood

The Taos is powered by a 1.5-L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive. You can also choose the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and the optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. The fuel consumption ratings of the Taos have not been announced yet, but we expect VW to deliver something special.

The Tiguan offers the same powertrain on all of its models, namely the 2.0-L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. However, you can choose between front-wheel drive and the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. And while the towing capacity of the Taos has not been announced, the Tiguan will be able to tow up to 1500 pounds.

Interior

Both the Tiguan and the Taos come standard with heated front seats. Both models also offer ventilated front seats as an option. These SUVs can also be equipped with a whole host of optional equipment and features such as dual-zone climate control, the Digital Cockpit or Digital Cockpit Pro, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity (can also choose wireless connectivity as an option), wireless phone charging, navigation and many more, depending on the version and options you choose.

In terms of safety, all models of the 2022 Tiguan except the base version will come standard with the IQ.Drive system, which features technologies such as pre-collision warning with pedestrian detection and automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, the semi-autonomous driving assistant and many more. Don’t worry, the IQ.Drive can also be added to the base model as an option.
