This new version will be available in the third quarter of 2021.
So what are the differences between these two SUVs, and more importantly, which one is the best choice for your needs and budget? To help you compare them and make an informed decision, we’ve prepared this match-up between the 2022 VW Taos and the 2022 VW Tiguan!

The 2022 VW Taos is offered at a price ranging from $26,995 to $36,695, making it a very affordable SUV. Unfortunately, the price range for the 2022 Tiguan has not been released yet, but for comparison, the 2021 version had a base price of $29,795 which climbed to $40,195 for the high-end trim. We expect the 2022 version to offer similar pricing.
While slightly more compact than the Tiguan, the Taos is still very spacious. In fact, it offers between 795 and 1877 liters of cargo space, depending on whether or not you fold down the rear seat.
The Tiguan, for its part, offers a more generous cargo volume ranging from 1065 to 2081 liters for the 5-seat model, while the 3-row version offers between 934 and 1860 liters of cargo space.
Finally, while the VW Tiguan comes in both 5- and 7-passenger versions, the Taos only offers the 5-seat version.

The Taos is powered by a 1.5-L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission with front-wheel drive. You can also choose the 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and the optional 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. The fuel consumption ratings of the Taos have not been announced yet, but we expect VW to deliver something special.
The Tiguan offers the same powertrain on all of its models, namely the 2.0-L turbocharged 4-cylinder engine with 184 horsepower and 221 lb-ft of torque. However, you can choose between front-wheel drive and the 4MOTION all-wheel drive system. And while the towing capacity of the Taos has not been announced, the Tiguan will be able to tow up to 1500 pounds.
Both the Tiguan and the Taos come standard with heated front seats. Both models also offer ventilated front seats as an option. These SUVs can also be equipped with a whole host of optional equipment and features such as dual-zone climate control, the Digital Cockpit or Digital Cockpit Pro, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto connectivity (can also choose wireless connectivity as an option), wireless phone charging, navigation and many more, depending on the version and options you choose.

Don’t worry, the IQ.Drive can also be added to the base model as an option.
The 2022 Taos is no slouch in terms of safety, either. With features such as forward-collision warning with emergency braking, blind spot monitoring with park exit assist, pedestrian detection, dynamic cornering lights and more, depending on the version you choose.
