2021 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport vs. 2021 Honda Passport: Refinement is Important
The Atlas Cross Sport has been making a lot of families happy since its introduction. With plenty of family-friendly volume, two powertrain options, standard all-wheel drive, contemporary styling and more, this German-engineered SUV has so many reasons to buy one. Add in competitive pricing and an industry-leading warranty, and it's time to compare the Cross Sport to the competition.
The 2021 Honda Passport is one of its competitors. Here, we compare both vehicles.
The 2021 Atlas Cross Sport has a competitive price and great value
The Cross Sport has a starting MSRP of $38,995. That's several thousand dollars below the Honda Passports starting MSRP. The next Cross Sport grade level is still nearly $2,000 below the Passport's entry price. And for just around $3,000 more than that, you can have the Cross Sport's second highest grade with features such as a panoramic power sunroof, heated rear seats, interior ambient lighting and leather perforated seating surfaces.
Each Atlas Cross Sport receives a 4-year, 80,000 km warranty. That's 1 year and 20,000 km more than what the Passport offers. You will have to purchase extended coverage if you want the Passport's coverage to match or exceed what Volkswagen offers at no additional cost.
Overall, when you want a better value, price, and warranty, the Atlas Cross Sport beats the Passport.
The 2021 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport features a wider variety of powertrains
The Cross Sport features two great powertrains. Available in all models except the Execline, a 2.0-litre turbo four-cylinder produces 235 horsepower and 258 lb-ft of torque. The Comfortline, Highline and Execline make available a powerful 3.6-litre six-cylinder that increases horsepower to 276 and torque to 266 lb-ft.
The Passport's 3.5-litre six-cylinder has a nearly identical output to the Cross Sport's six-cylinder. But this is the only powertrain the Passport offers, missing the opportunity to offer a smaller, more efficient engine. The Atlas Cross Sport provides a better choice of powertrains.
Other standard features of the Atlas Cross Sport include 4MOTION AWD, driver assistance technologies, an eight-speed transmission, and more. You will also enjoy the extended front and rear legroom the Cross Sport has over the Passport, along with better interior refinements and option packages.
